The Hood occurrence is located northwest of Mackenzie Cove on the north slope of an un-named mountain, at an elevation of approximately 173 metres.

The area is underlain by basalts, metabasalts and minor limestone of the Upper Triassic Karmutsen Formation (Vancouver Group), which have been intruded by quartz dioritic rocks of the Early Pennsylvanian Chaatl Inlet pluton.

Locally, a shear-hosted quartz-pyrite-sphalerite-galena-chalcopyrite vein, 30 to 40 centimetres thick. The vein parallels the foliation of the enclosing metabasalts and/or andesites. Epidote alteration is also reported. The occurrence is also described as containing three or four separate mineralized bands of fine-grained sulphides exposed in five separate showings over a length of 150 metres along a bearing of north 50 degrees west.

In 1963, sampling of five mineralized exposures yielded 1.6 per cent lead, 1.9 per cent zinc, 0.5 per cent copper and 3.4 grams per tonne silver over 0.9 metre from the no.1 showing; 2.8 per cent lead, 11.8 per cent zinc, 1.3 per cent copper and 92.3 grams per tonne silver over 1.05 metres in the no.2 showing; 0.2 per cent lead, 3.9 per cent zinc, 0.7 per cent copper and 6.8 grams per tonne silver over 0.45 metre in the no.3 showing; 2.6 per cent lead, 5.8 per cent zinc, 0.5 per cent copper and 41.0 grams per tonne silver over 1.8 metres in the no.4 showing and 1.0 per cent lead, 1.1 per cent zinc, 0.04 per cent copper with 6.8 grams per tonne silver over 2.4 metres in the no.5 showing (Property File - Cariboo Gold Quartz Mining Co. Ltd. [1963-10-09]: Preliminary Report - Hood, Rod, Bill and Young Showings).

In 1992, a sample of the vein assayed 4.4 per cent zinc, 1.6 per cent copper, 1.5 per cent lead and 78 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 22952, Figure 3).

The Waddington Mining Corporation Limited held nine claims in this vicinity in 1953. In 1963, Cariboo Gold Quartz Mining examined and sampled the area. Placid Oil Company held the property as the Young and Rod groups in 1965. A geophysical survey was carried out at the time. The area was prospected and sampled by Doromin Resources in 1990. Inco Exploration and Technical Services flew airborne VLF and magnetometer surveys over the region in 1992.
